The Rend Lake Visitor Center provides boat ramp access to Rend Lake, a major recreational reservoir in southern Illinois near Benton in Franklin County. This is a non-reservable public access point managed as part of the broader Rend Lake recreation area. The lake offers a natural haven for paddlers, with multiple access points available around the shoreline for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats.
Paddlers should note that Rend Lake features several designated access areas with varying amenities. Some locations, including Bonnie South, Waltonville Dam, Bluegill Hole, and Nason South Access Areas, offer accessible 20-foot fishing docks with textured aluminum surfaces that also serve as boat access points. Check ahead to confirm which specific facilities are operational and suitable for your vessel type. For extended trips, three reservable campgrounds are located within 10 miles: North Sandusky, South Sandusky, and South Marcum Campgrounds.
