The Rend Lake Visitor Center area in Benton provides boat access to Rend Lake, a popular recreational destination in southern Illinois. This access point is located near the heart of the lake and serves as a non-reservable public facility managed as part of the Rend Lake recreation area. Paddlers and boaters should note that Rend Lake has multiple designated access areas throughout the lake, each with varying amenities and seasonal availability.
For kayakers and canoeists, several nearby access points feature accessible 20-foot fishing docks with textured aluminum surfaces that can also serve as boat launch areas, including Bonnie South, Waltonville Dam, Bluegill Hole, and Nason South Access Areas. If you're planning an overnight trip, three campgrounds within 10 miles offer reservable campsites: South Sandusky, South Marcum, and North Sandusky Campgrounds. Before launching, check current conditions and access status, as some boat ramps at Rend Lake may be seasonal. The lake is known as a wildlife and recreation haven, making it suitable for both fishing and paddling activities.
