Rice Lake

This public boat ramp provides access to Rice Lake in Itasca County near Cohasset. The ramp is open year-round and remains accessible during most weather conditions, making it a reliable launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters. Note that the ramp has a relatively narrow width, which may pose challenges for larger motorboats, though it works well for smaller vessels and paddlecraft.

The site is conveniently located near Pokegama Dam Campground (reservable), making it ideal for multi-day paddling trips. Navigational buoys are typically deployed in mid-May. The launch provides access to Rice Lake and connections to surrounding water bodies, including proximity to the Mississippi River Headwaters area and Pokegama Lake for extended paddling opportunities. This is a good base for exploring the northern Minnesota lake system.
