About This Access Site
Located on the north shore of Rice Lake in Lake Mills, this public boat ramp provides access to one of Iowa's few natural shallow lakes. The launch features a gravel road leading to a concrete ramp with a loop turnaround and parking area. Note that the access road is accessed via gravel roads with minimal signage, and the entrance itself transitions from rough, pothole-filled gravel to concrete as you approach the water.

Rice Lake spans 1,200 acres and welcomes all motor sizes, making it suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorized boats. The shallow lake is a designated wildlife area and important refuge for migratory birds, so paddlers should be respectful of wildlife. The lake supports fishing for bass, bluegill, walleye, and yellow perch. A second public ramp is available on the lake's south shore if needed. This is a quiet, remote spot ideal for those seeking a less-crowded paddling experience.
