The Rice/Skunk Lake boat ramp in Vawter provides public access to Rice Lake and is a popular launch point for kayakers and canoeists, particularly during spring and summer months. This access site is also frequented by waterfowl hunters in the fall. Note that the ramp has a relatively narrow width, which may present challenges for larger boats during launching. The site is open year-round and remains accessible during most weather conditions.
Rice Lake welcomes paddlers of all types, with no motor restrictions on the water. The nearby Crane Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, one of the largest intact wetland complexes in central Minnesota, offers excellent paddling opportunities in the surrounding area. For planning your visit, contact the park office to inquire about seasonal canoe and kayak rentals and current conditions before heading out.
