River Junction

River Junction is a boat ramp access point on the Blackfoot River near Ovando in Powell County, Montana. This is a driftboat-worthy access site that serves as a popular put-in for floats down the Blackfoot River. The site provides vehicle and boat access to the river, making it convenient for launching kayaks, canoes, and drift boats heading downstream toward Russell Gates or beyond.

The section of river below River Junction features quick flow and twisty turns with minimal whitewater in the first several miles, making it a moderate difficulty float that's manageable during summer months but potentially dangerous in spring when water levels are high and sweepers are prevalent. Paddlers should be prepared for current and bends in the river rather than technical rapids in this section.
