About This Access Site
Riverside Park offers public access to the Colorado River in Matagorda County, providing a convenient launch point for kayakers and canoeists. Located at the end of County Road 2031, this is an informal but functional access area with designated parking near the Riverside Park sign. The site is best suited for non-motorized watercraft and serves paddlers looking to explore this major river in its lower reaches, just miles from the Gulf of Mexico.

As a major river system (USGS Stream Order 8), the Colorado flows with an average velocity of 7.75 feet per second and carries substantial water volume. Paddlers should be aware that downstream access from this site is limited due to rocks, shallows, and rapids, making this primarily a launch point rather than a through-paddle location. Given the river's significant flow and the lower coastal elevation, this section is suitable for experienced paddlers comfortable with moving water conditions.

**Important:** Access is restricted to 30 minutes before sunrise through 30 minutes after sunset for bank fishing and launching non-motorized boats only. No pets, campfires, ATVs, firearms, or alcohol are permitted. Plan your visit accordingly and check current conditions before launching, as water levels and flow can vary seasonally.
