About This Access Site
Located in Phelps, Missouri, the Robert E. Talbot Conservation Area offers paddlers and boaters access to a 4,360-acre property with multiple water bodies. The main launching point is at Pond 1, a four-acre lake on the south portion of the area, which features a **shallow gravel boat ramp** suitable for small craft like kayaks and canoes. A larger seven-acre lake is also available with its own boat ramp and fishing jetty. Both water bodies are ideal for leisurely paddling rather than distance touring.

This conservation area is best suited for recreational paddlers, anglers, and wildlife viewers. The four-acre lake offers excellent bluegill fishing but is shallow with limited depth for larger motorboats. The property's 4,360 acres of managed grasslands and overgrown fields surrounding the ponds provide scenic views and opportunities to observe songbirds and grassland wildlife. Walk-in fishing access is readily available, making this a good destination for a low-key day paddle or family outing. The site is located on Historic Route 66, offering convenient access for visitors to the Lawrence County area.
