About This Access Site
S. P. Reynolds Access provides boat and fishing access to the Mississippi River near Caruthersville in Pemiscot County. The site offers parking and river access, with walk-in access also available to the adjoining Harlow Island, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This location is suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters looking to access one of North America's major waterways.

Be prepared for a major river environment: the Mississippi at this location is a powerful waterway with an average flow of over 685,000 cubic feet per second and current speeds around 11 feet per second. Paddlers should have strong boat handling skills, be aware of commercial traffic, and take appropriate safety precautions including life jackets and awareness of the river's substantial current. The relatively gentle gradient (0.8 ft/mile) means consistent flow rather than significant elevation changes, but the sheer volume and velocity of water demand respect and preparation.
