About This Access Site
Sabin Lake is a 156-acre lake located approximately 4 miles northeast of Biwabik near Giants Ridge recreation area in St. Louis County. A public concrete boat ramp with dock access is available on the west side of the lake, making it a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. Note that the ramp has a steep grade, so be prepared for a challenging launch and retrieval, especially in low-water conditions.

As the most upstream lake on the Embarrass River, Sabin Lake (also known as Embarrass Pit) offers distinctive characteristics for paddlers. The lake features exceptionally clear water and reaches depths of up to 465 feet in some areas. This former mine pit setting makes for unique paddling conditions. Boaters should be aware of the deep water and plan accordingly for their experience level and equipment. The site is easily accessible from Aurora and provides a good starting point for those interested in exploring the Embarrass River system.
