About This Access Site
The Saganaga boat ramp near Grand Marais provides access to one of the premier paddling destinations in northeastern Minnesota. This is Entry Point 55 for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA), offering paddlers entry into a magnificent lake dotted with islands, long bays, hidden coves, and open water expanses. The lake is large enough to accommodate various paddling styles, making it suitable for both day trips and extended expeditions.

Saganaga Lake allows motorboats up to 25 horsepower on the Minnesota side, so paddlers should be prepared for potential motor traffic. The lake's size and open areas mean wind can be a factor, and paddlers should check conditions before heading out. The site provides a good base for exploration, with numerous islands and protected coves available for camping and rest stops. Trails End Campground is located within 10 miles if you need accommodations before or after your paddling adventure.

This access point is ideal for kayakers and canoeists planning multi-day trips into the BWCA or those seeking a scenic day paddle in a well-developed lake system with good facilities for launching and planning your route.
