About This Access Site
This boat ramp provides access to Saganaga Lake, a large 18,767-acre water body located near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The site serves as Entry Point 55 for BWCA exploration and is ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters. Vessels with motors up to 25 horsepower are permitted on the Minnesota side of the lake. The lake features diverse geography with islands, long bays, hidden coves, and open water expanses, making it suitable for both day trips and multi-day paddling expeditions.

The lake is well-known for excellent fishing (walleye, northern pike, bass, and lake trout) and offers multiple recreational opportunities including boating, canoeing, and kayaking. Paddlers planning overnight trips will find backcountry camping sites available on a first-come, first-served basis; each site includes a fire grate, latrine, and may have a picnic table. Remember to hang food packs, treat or boil all water, and practice Leave No Trace principles. Trails End Campground is available nearby for those preferring reservable camping accommodations.

Located near Grand Marais in Cook County, this access point is one of two public boat launches on Saganaga Lake and offers a convenient starting point for exploring this beautiful and expansive BWCA destination.
