About This Access Site
Saline Bayou Campground offers a convenient boat ramp for accessing Saline Lake and the scenic Saline Bayou waterway in remote Catahoula Parish. The facility includes a launch ramp suitable for small trailered boats and other small watercraft, along with campground amenities including tables, trash containers, and restrooms. This access point provides entry to an 18.5-mile paddling corridor extending from the Louisiana Highway 126 bridge downstream through Saline Lake to Sand Point boat ramp.

The Saline Bayou area is known for its beautiful natural scenery and is a popular destination for kayakers and canoeists exploring Louisiana's Kisatchie National Forest region. However, paddlers should be aware that this is a remote waterway with limited road access, making emergency rescue slow and difficult—those with medical conditions should reconsider paddling here. The bayou and connected waterways have historically dealt with invasive giant salvinia, so check current conditions before launching.

For paddling options, the Forest Service maintains multiple launch sites in the area, including Cloud Crossing Recreation Area and Pearfield Boat Launch downstream, which may be better suited depending on your desired route. The waterway also connects to nearby Lake Ophelia National Wildlife Refuge for wildlife viewing opportunities.
