About This Access Site
Salmon Run is a public boat ramp providing convenient access to Summersville Lake and the Gauley River in Nicholas County, West Virginia. The facility features a single-lane concrete ramp, vehicle and trailer parking, restrooms, picnic areas with grills, and a nearby swimming area. This is one of four Army Corps of Engineers access points on the lake and is an excellent launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats.

From here, paddlers can explore 25 miles of free-flowing Gauley River as it passes through scenic gorges and valleys, as well as the calmer waters of Summersville Lake, known for its spectacular sandstone cliffs. The nearby Pirates Cove is a popular destination accessible by boat or kayak from this ramp. The area also offers hiking opportunities and is located near Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park, adding to the recreational appeal. Note that day-use parking typically requires a fee, so plan accordingly before launching.
