About This Access Site
The Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge offers kayakers, canoeists, and small boaters access to the 400-acre Loakfoma Lake. This boat ramp provides a convenient launch point to explore the refuge's tranquil waters and spot abundant wildlife like alligators, waterfowl, and bald eagles.

Loakfoma Lake is one of the two major lakes within the refuge, along with the larger 800-acre Bluff Lake. The refuge's network of lakes, wetlands, and waterways provide excellent habitat for migratory birds and other species, and has earned it designation as an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society.

While motorized boating is permitted on Loakfoma Lake, the calm waters and ample wildlife make it an ideal setting for peaceful paddling. Anglers can also fish from the shore or by boat, though season and regulation restrictions may apply. Visitors should check the refuge's website or signage for the latest information on access, activities, and rules before planning their visit.
