The San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area offers boat access to the expansive San Luis Reservoir in central California. The Dinosaur Point and Basalt boat ramps provide easy launch points for kayakers, canoeists, and powerboaters.
The reservoir can experience sudden, strong winds, so it's important to check the wind warning lights near the Basalt entrance station, Quien Sabe Point, and Romero Visitor Center before heading out. On the adjacent O'Neill Forebay, additional wind warning lights are posted near the old Medeiros boat ramp and South Beach area. Boaters should be prepared for changing conditions and have the necessary safety gear.
The reservoir itself covers over 12,000 acres, providing ample room for exploration, fishing, and other water sports. Anglers will find a variety of species to target, including bass, crappie, and trout. Overall, the San Luis Reservoir offers an excellent recreational destination for paddlers, boaters, and anglers looking to enjoy the scenic western San Joaquin Valley setting.
