About This Access Site
The San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area offers excellent boating access to the large San Luis Reservoir. There are two improved boat launch ramps available - the Dinosaur Point ramp and the Basalt area ramp. These ramps provide easy access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters to explore the expansive reservoir.

The reservoir can experience sudden, strong winds, so it's important to pay attention to the wind warning lights located at various points around the water body. These lights indicate when winds have picked up and may make boating conditions hazardous. Boaters should always check the weather and wind forecasts before heading out.

Beyond the boat ramps, the San Luis Reservoir and surrounding recreation area offer excellent opportunities for anglers, with the reservoir known for its good fishing. Visitors can also enjoy other activities like camping, picnicking, and hiking in the scenic hills surrounding the water.
