The San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area's Los Banos Creek boat ramp provides access to the large San Luis Reservoir. This can be a great option for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats looking to explore the reservoir's expansive waters.
The boat ramp is located off Canyon Road, with good road access from I-5. However, note that the Los Banos Creek Reservoir area will be closed from September 6th to April 17th for construction projects to improve park access, including extending the boat ramp.
When the area is open, boaters should be prepared for potentially windy conditions, as the reservoir is known for sudden gusts. Check the wind warning lights at the ramp and other areas around the reservoir. The Basalt boat ramp on the reservoir is currently closed, so the Los Banos Creek ramp may see more use. Paddlers and boaters should always use caution and be aware of any water level or hazard changes, especially during drawdown periods.
