About This Access Site
The Sandstone access site provides public boat launch facilities on the New River in the heart of New River Gorge National Park & Preserve. Located near the Sandstone Visitor Center in Raleigh County, this access point serves as a gateway to one of the continent's oldest rivers, known for its rugged whitewater character and deep canyon scenery. The site is conveniently positioned along a scenic stretch of the New River, making it a popular launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters exploring the gorge.

Paddlers should note that a newer public boat ramp is available at nearby Meadow Creek Campground, located just one mile north on Meadow Creek Road, which may offer additional facilities. The Sandstone area is part of a series of public access points along the New River including Thurmond, Cunard, and Fayette Station downstream, as well as Grandview Sandbars and Glade Creek upstream. For detailed information about amenities, current conditions, and regulations, contact the Sandstone Visitor Center at (304) 466-0417 or visit the National Park Service website. Several campgrounds are available within 10 miles for multi-day trips.
