Sandy Island Landing is a Georgetown County-managed boat ramp providing access to the Waccamaw River near Litchfield by the Sea. The facility features one launching lane, a courtesy dock, and limited parking. As the northernmost public access point on the Waccamaw River in this area, it serves as a key entry point for paddlers and boaters exploring this large, scenic waterway.

The Waccamaw River is a substantial coastal plain river with a modest gradient of 0.3 feet per mile and an average flow of nearly 2,000 cubic feet per second. With an average velocity of 2.3 feet/second and a total elevation drop of just 41 feet across 145 miles, expect relatively slow-moving water ideal for kayaking and canoeing. The river flows through diverse habitats protected by the nearby Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge and North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and nature-based paddling.
