Sandy Shore Recreation Area offers the largest and most developed boat access point on Lake Kampeska, a substantial 5,250-acre glacial lake west of Watertown. The facility features a two-lane boat ramp designed to accommodate multiple vessels, making it an excellent launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The location on the south shore provides 1,500 feet of sandy beach, offering a scenic and accessible paddling environment.
This state recreation area is well-suited as a base for water recreation on Lake Kampeska. Beyond the boat ramp, the facility includes 17 campsites and 2 camping cabins, making it convenient for multi-day paddling trips. The sandy beach area is ideal for launching kayaks and canoes, and the calm lake waters support diverse activities including fishing, swimming, and water sports. With six public boat ramps available around the lake, Sandy Shore remains the primary access point for serious boating and paddling activities.
