Santee Lakes KOA offers convenient access to Lake Marion, one of South Carolina's largest recreational lakes with 90,000 acres of surface water and 511 miles of shoreline. The facility features a boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and larger vessels. The campground is situated directly on the lake, providing waterfront camping options and amenities including bath houses, a fishing pier, and lake swimming. This is an excellent base for paddlers planning to explore the extensive waters of Lake Marion.
Lake Marion is a large, relatively shallow impoundment with an average depth of 13 feet (maximum depth around 77 feet), making it suitable for various water activities. With 16 boat ramps available around the lake and 13 fish attractors, there's plenty of water to explore. Paddlers should note that regular park fees are required for access. The nearby Santee National Wildlife Refuge (15,000 acres) offers additional paddling and wildlife viewing opportunities. Before visiting, check current conditions and any seasonal restrictions that may apply to the area.
