About This Access Site
Scotts Cove offers convenient access to the T. Howard Duckett Reservoir (Rocky Gorge Reservoir) on the Patuxent River in Laurel, Howard County. This boat ramp provides paddlers and boaters with direct launch capabilities into a scenic 6,000-acre wooded watershed area. The launch is situated at the head of Scotts Cove, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the reservoir's calm, protected waters.

The site includes shoreline trails and a picnic area for visitors. An additional scenic overlook can be accessed via a short path at the southwest corner of Pineway Drive and Harding Road, offering views overlooking Scotts Cove's mouth and the main reservoir. The surrounding landscape features mature forests typical of the Piedmont region, providing a peaceful paddling environment. The reservoir is popular for recreational boating and fishing, and the area is managed as part of the Water and Sewer Commission's (WSSC) conservation lands.

Paddlers should note that this launch provides access to a larger recreational area with multiple access points along the Patuxent River system. Nearby paddling opportunities include connections to other launch sites throughout the watershed, making it suitable for day trips or longer explorations of the river network.
