The Seward Highway Bridge boat ramp provides access to the Placer River, a medium-sized river in Anchorage, Alaska. The put-in is located right next to the parking area on the other side of the bridge. The boat ramp consists of a gravelly surface that has been eroded by the tides.
The Placer River is approximately 20 miles long and drops around 2,376 feet in elevation, with an average flow of 19 cubic feet per second and an average velocity of 1.59 feet per second. This makes it a moderately sized, swiftly flowing river, which paddlers and small boaters should keep in mind when launching and navigating.
There are several campgrounds within 10 miles of the access site, including the reservable Williwaw Campground, Black Bear Campground, and Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop Group Campground. The site is also popular with saltwater boaters looking to rinse their craft in the freshwater of the Placer River. While no specific fees or hours are listed, this is a public access point, so paddlers and boaters should be prepared to launch and retrieve their craft independently.
