Shannon is a Bureau of Reclamation day-use recreation area located on the north end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir near the dam in Lewis and Clark County, Montana. The facility features two concrete boat ramps and a boat dock, making it well-suited for launching kayaks, canoes, and larger watercraft. Amenities include handicapped-accessible parking and toilets. Note that this is a day-use only facility with no overnight camping allowed on-site.
Canyon Ferry Reservoir spans 33,500 surface acres with 96 miles of shoreline, offering excellent conditions for paddling and fishing (rainbow trout, perch, ling, and walleye). The Shannon ramp provides convenient access to the northern portion of the reservoir. Several campgrounds are located within 10 miles, including Devil's Elbow, Jo Bonner, and Court Sheriff Campgrounds (all reservable), providing overnight options for paddlers planning multi-day trips. The nearby Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest and Helena Valley Reservoir offer additional recreation opportunities in the area.
