**Location & Access:** Shannon Lake's only developed public boat launch is located on the eastern shore near Concrete in Skagit County. Access via Highway 20 east from Sedro-Woolley, turning north on Baker Lake Highway (Forest Service Road 11). Note that the access road is a primitive single-lane gravel road in good condition—drive carefully and avoid night driving when possible. Boats over 16 feet have special launching regulations.
**Paddling & Conditions:** Shannon Lake is a scenic seven-mile-long reservoir nestled between densely forested hills and rugged ridges, offering easy, relaxing paddling. The lake is bordered by the 285-foot Lower Baker Dam at its south end. This is an excellent day-trip destination for kayakers and canoeists seeking calm water surrounded by natural forest scenery.
**Important Use Restrictions:** During Sockeye fishing season, boat ramp use is restricted to Shannon Creek campers only. Overnight camping is not permitted at the boat launch itself due to safety concerns on the narrow access road. Nearby camping alternatives include Horseshoe Cove and Bayview Campgrounds (both reservable), or PSE's Koma Kulshan Campground off Baker Lake Road near the Upper Baker Dam. Contact the Mt. Baker Ranger District office in Sedro-Woolley for current season dates and fishing regulations.
