About This Access Site
Sharon is a boat ramp access point on Lookout Shoals Lake, a impoundment section of the Catawba River in Iredell County, North Carolina. This location provides access to a major river system that drains 4,396 square miles across the region. The Catawba River at this point flows at an average of 6,175 cubic feet per second with moderate velocities around 5.45 feet per second, creating conditions typical of a controlled reservoir environment rather than a wild river stretch.

The lake portion here offers relatively stable water conditions suitable for various boating activities. Given the substantial drainage area and consistent flow characteristics, paddlers should be prepared for occasional increased water movement, particularly during heavy rainfall periods upstream. The surrounding Iredell County area provides access to a significant portion of the Catawba River system, which extends over 225 miles in total length with considerable elevation change from source to mouth.
