Shawnee Trail Conservation Area

Shawnee Trail Conservation Area provides public access to Pin Oak Lake, a 14-acre impoundment ideal for small boats, kayaks, and canoes. The site features a concrete boat ramp that is handicap accessible, making it convenient for paddlers of varying abilities. A gravel parking lot and primitive facilities including a vaulted toilet are available on-site. This is a small, manageable water body well-suited for beginners and those seeking a quieter paddling experience away from larger lakes.

The conservation area encompasses over 82 acres total with 41 bodies of water, offering opportunities to explore multiple ponds beyond Pin Oak Lake itself. The lake supports a decent population of game fish and waterfowl, making it attractive for anglers and wildlife observers. Primitive camping is available if you plan an overnight trip. Paddlers should note that facilities are basic—plan accordingly and pack out what you pack in. Located near Mindenmines in Barton County, the access is reached via Highway 5 south and Route TT northeast from the Sunrise Beach area.
