**Location & Access:** Sheep Mountain is located approximately 4 miles downstream of Highway 89 Bridge near Livingston. From Highway 89, take the Convict Grade Road east just north of the bridge and follow signs for about 3 miles to reach the site. This is a state fishing access area situated in scenic foothill terrain.
**Facilities & Launching:** This access point offers a carry-in boat launch only—no vehicle-to-water ramp is available. Facilities are limited to toilets. The site accommodates tent camping with a 7-day stay limit. Given its location on the Yellowstone River, this access works well for kayakers, canoeists, and small watercraft that can be hand-launched. Before visiting, check Montana FWP's current access status, as closures can occur (the site was previously closed due to downed power lines). Water conditions vary seasonally; after heavy rain, upstream tributaries like the Shields River can increase turbidity significantly.
**Practical Notes:** Plan accordingly if using this as a put-in or take-out point for floats. The Yellowstone in this reach is a moderate-sized river; confirm current flows and conditions before your trip. This access provides a good option for paddlers looking to access the river between Highway 89 and Mayor's Landing downstream.
