Sherman Park offers a basic boat ramp providing good kayak and canoe access to the Wapsipinicon River near Big Rock in Clinton County. The ramp is located at the south entrance (2776 160th Ave., Calamus, IA) and is managed by Clinton County Conservation. This is an excellent put-in for paddlers looking to explore the scenic Wapsipinicon River, which features upland forests, riparian areas, and native sand prairie along its corridor.
The park provides ample amenities for a full day outing or extended paddling trip. Parking is available at multiple entrances, and the facility includes a playground and 4 miles of hiking trails. For those planning overnight trips, Sherman Park offers both developed camping with electricity ($17/night for 8 sites) and primitive camping options ($12/night for 12 sites), available April through October. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. year-round.
