Located on Packers Island in Sunbury, this boat ramp provides convenient access to Lake Augusta, a 3,060-acre impoundment on the Susquehanna River's North Branch. The facility features two boat launches, a marina with rentals, and ample amenities including picnic areas and paved paths. This is an excellent starting point for kayakers and canoeists seeking calm water paddling on the lake itself, which is formed by the Adam T. Bower Memorial Dam (the world's longest inflatable dam) located approximately two miles downstream.
Paddlers departing from this south-facing ramp should note that the immediate area sees moderate boat traffic from the marina. When launching, paddle up the side of the island to reach the main ramp area near the Lake Augusta Boat Rentals building. The calm lake environment makes this site ideal for recreational paddling, though boaters should be prepared for motorized boat traffic typical of a state park marina facility. With its developed infrastructure and protected water access, Shikellamy South is well-suited for both novice and experienced paddlers launching onto Lake Augusta.
