Silver Bay Safe Harbor offers protected access to Lake Superior with two boat ramps situated within a small craft harbor, providing excellent conditions for kayakers, canoeists, and larger recreational vessels. The ramps maintain a minimum 5-foot depth at their ends, and a 150-foot crib dock with a red navigation light helps breakwater protection during launches and retrievals. Three make-ready docks are available, with one designated primarily for divers. This is an ideal entry point for paddlers seeking calm water conditions before venturing onto Superior's open waters.
Facilities at this site include paved parking for approximately 20 vehicles with trailers, plus overflow parking in an adjacent lot. Vault toilets are available on-site. The harbor's protected design makes it one of Lake Superior's safer launch points, particularly valuable given Superior's unpredictable conditions and cold water. The site also provides quick access to scenic areas including an adjacent scientific and natural area and the Gitchi-Gami Trail. For additional information or services, contact 218-226-3121.
