About This Access Site
The Sixmile Creek boat ramp provides access to the Sabine River near Carthage in Panola County. Located off FM 1794 east of town, this is a public launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats exploring this major river system. The site is particularly popular during spring months when white bass spawn and congregate in the area, especially below the Black Shoals.

The Sabine River at this location is a substantial waterway—a major river system with an average flow of over 9,100 cubic feet per second and a relatively gentle gradient of 0.8 feet per mile. The moderate current and broad drainage area (nearly 9,600 square miles) mean water conditions can vary significantly with seasonal rainfall and upstream releases. Paddlers should expect a moderately-flowing river suitable for various skill levels, though current speed may increase during high-water periods. The site serves as a good base for both day trips and extended paddling explorations of the lower Sabine.
