**Location & Access:** Skookum is situated on the Pine River near Luther in Lake County, Michigan. To reach the site, take US-23 north to Standish, turn east on Cedar Street, then continue on Pine River Road for approximately 7 miles to the MDNR sign marking Wigwam Access and Skookum. There are both north and south access points available on river right and left, respectively.
**Paddling Considerations:** This access point is popular with canoeists and kayakers looking to paddle upstream on the Pine River. Skookum serves as a valuable launch point for those exploring this section of the river, though paddlers should note that upstream areas like Pine Creek can be heavily obstructed and impractical for canoeing. The site offers boat launching facilities suitable for canoes, kayaks, and small motorized boats, making it a practical put-in for day trips and longer paddling expeditions on the Pine River.
