The Hoback access point provides launch facilities on the Snake River, a major river system spanning 559 miles with significant flow averaging nearly 50,000 cubic feet per second. This section of the Snake River features a moderate gradient of approximately 15.8 feet per mile, making it suitable for various skill levels depending on seasonal water conditions and your intended float distance. The river offers spectacular views of the surrounding Teton and Gros Ventre mountain ranges, with opportunities for both day trips and longer paddling adventures.
This is a popular section of the Snake River, particularly during summer months, so expect to share the water with other boaters and rafters. Groups of 15 or more paddlers should obtain a free permit in advance. If you plan to camp in the corridor, note that from May 1 through Labor Day, camping is restricted to developed campgrounds only. Station Creek Campground is available within 10 miles and offers reservable campsites. The public boat ramp access makes this a convenient starting point for various float options, whether you're planning a short paddle or connecting to downstream access points.
