About This Access Site
Snow Lake is a small 90-93 acre reservoir located in the Reserve Ranger District, approximately 30 miles northwest of Reserve, New Mexico in Catron County. The boat ramp is situated within the Swan Lake Day Use Area near the Dipping Vat Campground. To access the site, take Highway 83 to mile marker 72 just north of Reserve, then turn west onto Forest Road 142 and follow signs for Snow Lake and the campground. Note that road and weather conditions may limit access during winter and spring months.

This is a non-motorized or electric motor only lake, with boating permitted during daylight hours from April through November. The calm, small reservoir makes it well-suited for kayakers and canoeists looking for a leisurely paddle in a scenic mountain setting. The lake is stocked with trout three times yearly during cooler months, making it popular with anglers. Additionally, Snow Lake serves as a gateway to the Mogollon Trail and the southwestern portion of the Gila Wilderness for those interested in combining water access with hiking opportunities.
