The Somerset access site offers a public boat launch on the Saint Croix River at 261 Marine Road in Somerset, Wisconsin. This DNR-maintained facility provides convenient access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters, with amenities including a boat ramp, two courtesy docks, vehicle and trailer parking (17 stalls, including one ADA-accessible), bathrooms, picnic tables, and a grill. The site sits on approximately 2 acres of DNR land managed by St. Croix County under a long-term maintenance agreement.
Paddlers should note that while the facility includes trail access to nearby sand bar swimming areas, the shoreline along Bass Lake (adjacent to the launch) is muddy and not ideal for swimming. The Saint Croix River offers excellent paddling opportunities and is part of a federally managed scenic riverway divided into multiple camping zones. The proximity to the St. Croix Wetland Management District provides additional opportunities to explore wetland and grassland habitats by water. This is a well-developed access point suitable for launching day trips or longer paddling adventures on the Saint Croix River system.
