Souse Gulch offers a paved boat ramp providing direct access to Lake Koocanusa, a 90-mile reservoir created by Libby Dam on the Kootenai River. This is one of four major paved launch facilities on the lake, making it a reliable option for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The recreation area is located near Libby Dam's visitor center (approximately 17 miles north of Libby), where you'll find picnic facilities and day-use amenities alongside the launch.
Lake Koocanusa is a large, calm-water reservoir ideal for paddlers of all skill levels—quite different from the free-flowing Kootenai River sections. The area is known for excellent land-locked salmon fishing and supports diverse water recreation. If you plan to camp nearby, McGillivray Campground is available within 10 miles and offers reservable sites. The surrounding Kootenai National Forest provides additional hiking and scenic opportunities.
