The South Charleston access site provides boat ramp access to the Kanawha River in South Charleston, Kanawha County, WV. This location is currently in early development stages as a public boat access point. The Kanawha River in this area is part of the navigable pool system, offering relatively calm, deep-water paddling suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boats.
The nearby Marmet Pool extends approximately 15 miles downstream to London Dam near Belle, WV, maintaining a 9-foot navigable channel. This makes the South Charleston ramp a convenient launch point for day trips or longer paddles on the lower Kanawha River. Paddlers should plan accordingly and check current conditions before launching. For additional access alternatives in the region, King Shoals public access point is located to the east near the Kanawha-Clay county line and offers a concrete ramp designed for small boats and kayaks.
