South Fork State Recreation Area offers access to South Fork Reservoir, an impoundment on the South Fork of the Humboldt River created in 1988. The recreation area features two improved concrete boat ramps located on opposite sides of the reservoir. The southwest shore boat launch is well-suited for smaller watercraft and float tubes, accommodating boats up to 15 feet in length. The main launch near the dam provides ample parking and is suitable for larger vessels. The 2,200-acre park is surrounded by marsh, meadowland, and foothills, with paved roads circling most of the reservoir perimeter and day-use areas scattered around the water's edge.
The site is easily accessible via paved roads with no sharp turns or difficult terrain—take I-80 to Elko, then head south on NV-227 and NV-228 to Lower South Fork Road. Beyond paddling and boating, the area supports water sports including water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing. Campers will find a 25-site campground on-site, along with picnicking areas and hiking trails throughout the park. Parking is available at most facilities around the reservoir.
