South Fork State Recreation Area offers two concrete boat ramps for accessing South Fork Reservoir, an impoundment on the South Fork Humboldt River created by the South Fork Dam. This ramp location features ample parking and is suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorized boats. The southwest shore ramp can accommodate vessels up to 15 feet in length and is particularly popular with float tube enthusiasts, while the main launch near the dam provides additional capacity for larger craft.
The 25-site campground and day-use facilities make this a convenient base for extended paddling trips or day outings on the reservoir. The park is easily accessible via paved roads from I-80 through Elko—take NV-227, then NV-228, followed by Lower South Fork Road. The entire perimeter is ringed by paved roads with ample parking at multiple access points, making it easy to scout conditions or explore different sections of the water. Picnicking is available throughout the reservoir area, and nearby South Fork Canyon offers additional river access for float trips in tubes, kayaks, and canoes.
