Located at the end of South Island Road near Georgetown, South Carolina, the South Island Ferry boat ramp provides access to the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The facility features a large parking area and is situated approximately 8 miles south of Georgetown via Highway 17 and South Island Road. Nearby amenities include a store a couple miles away offering fishing licenses, gear, gas, and supplies.
This ramp is popular with kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats exploring the Intracoastal Waterway and the surrounding salt marshes. Paddlers should be aware of strong tidal currents in this section of the waterway, which can present challenges for boats with small outboard motors. The area also provides access to the North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, protecting over 12,000 acres of tidal marshes and transitional habitats ideal for exploration by paddle craft and small vessels.
**Tip:** Note that parking spaces are designated for vehicles with and without trailers—please use appropriately. There are no launching prep areas at the ramp, so plan accordingly before arriving.
