About This Access Site
South McAvity Bay provides a concrete boat ramp providing access to Cut Foot Sioux Lake, a scenic 2,771-acre lake in Itasca County north of Deer River. The ramp is located on the northeast side of the lake in McAvity Bay, near Williams Narrows Campground. With a maximum depth of 78 feet, Cut Foot Sioux Lake offers good conditions for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats, making this a convenient launching point for exploring the lake's various bays and shoreline.

The access site is part of the East Seelye Bay Campground area, located 20 miles north of Deer River off Highway 46, then 4 miles west on Eagle Nest Road (FR 2198). The facility includes parking and is situated within the Chippewa National Forest. Paddlers can take advantage of nearby camping options, including first-come, first-served sites at East Seelye Bay Campground and reservable sites at Tamarack Point, Winnie Dam, and Cut Foot Horse Campground, making this an excellent base for multi-day paddling trips in the area.

The Chippewa National Forest and the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe work together to co-steward resources - making the Forest a great place to recreate as well as a special place where cultural and traditional resources are protected and preserved and the Band’s treaty rights are respected.  
Recreation
Opportunities for fishing, swimming and boating on Lake Winnibigoshish abound. The Cut Foot Sioux National Recreation Trail runs past the campground and along Seelye Point, it is an unpaved trail used for hiking and horseback riding. The East Seelye Point Trail also runs through the campground, and there is easy access down the road to the Simpson Creek Trail system.
