South Mead Lake County Park provides public boat access to Mead Lake via the South Fork Eau Claire River near Willard in Clark County. This 310-acre lake offers a scenic paddling destination with two public boat landings available to visitors. The lake has a maximum depth of 16 feet and is popular for fishing, with populations of musky, panfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and walleye—making it suitable for recreational boaters seeking calmer water conditions.
The site is conveniently located near camping facilities, with one boat landing positioned directly at the campground. Beyond the main lake, paddlers have access to approximately 23 miles of public waterway frontage through county forest lands, with access possible from 16 road crossings along the South Fork. This makes it an excellent base for exploring the broader river system. Contact Clark County Parks or check the Wisconsin DNR boat access website for current information on hours, facilities, and any seasonal considerations.
