South Shore

**Location & Access:** The South Shore ramp is located in Rio, Columbia County, on the south side of Mud Lake off King Road. This is one of three public access points on Mud Lake and serves as a convenient launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats exploring the lake and connected waterways.

**What to Expect:** Users should be prepared for goose droppings on the ramp surface—wear appropriate footwear and exercise caution when launching. The area sees mixed recreational use, including duck hunting, so be aware of seasonal hunting activity. Limited alternate access options exist on Mud Lake; while Rock Creek connects upstream toward Hope Lake Road, navigation is severely restricted by cattail growth downstream of the bridge. A southern boardwalk provides theoretical launch access but may have limitations.

**Nearby Recreation:** The South Shore access offers paddlers proximity to Wisconsin River Islands and the Leopold Wetland Management District, both providing excellent opportunities for exploration and wildlife viewing in this scenic region of central Wisconsin.
