South Turtle Lake is an 837-acre lake in scenic Otter Tail County, Minnesota, offering public boat access via a county-owned ramp located at Turtle Lake County Park in the southeastern corner of the lake. The lake has a maximum depth of 35 feet and is suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. Be aware that this is a popular destination, especially on weekends, and the access area can reach capacity. Shore fishing is also available between the county beach and boat ramp if you're interested in a mixed land and water outing.
The access site includes amenities for paddlers and anglers, with boat rentals available for those without their own equipment. An ADA-compliant access ramp has been added to improve accessibility at the service dock. Given the lake's popularity and size, it's a good option for both day trips and longer paddling adventures. Consider visiting during weekday hours to avoid crowding during peak times.
