About This Access Site
The Saint Croix Island Ranger Station in Calais provides access to the St. Croix River, a scenic waterway marking the border between Maine and Canada. This location is primarily known as an interpretive site focused on the historic 1604-1605 French expedition to Saint Croix Island rather than as a dedicated boat launch facility. The ranger station (207-454-0418) offers information about the area's history and an interpretive trail with views of the island. The site is located 8 miles south of Calais on US Route 1.

Paddlers and boaters should note that this access point has limited amenities and is not specifically designed as a primary launch area. Winter services are severely restricted from late October through Memorial Day, with displays and facilities covered for weather protection. For detailed launch information, parking availability, and current conditions on the St. Croix River, contact the ranger station directly. Visitors should also explore nearby Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge and other regional access points to find facilities that best suit their paddling plans.
