The St. Francis Sunken Lands Wildlife Management Area offers several public boat access points along the St. Francis River in northeast Arkansas. The area was created by the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-12, which caused the ground to drop 6-8 feet, flooding the region.
This section of the St. Francis River is relatively slow-moving and wide, making it well-suited for kayaking, canoeing, and small motorized boats. The closest boat ramp is located 1.3 miles down Oak Donnick Lane. Additional access points include Siphons Access, Stephens Landing, Mangrum Landing, Iron Bridge Access, and the Lake City Hwy 18 bridge. These boat launches provide the best way for paddlers and anglers to explore the management area's extensive wetlands and backwaters that are home to abundant waterfowl and other wildlife.
While the area is open for public use, visitors should note that much of the land is undisturbed and only accessible by boat. Those planning a trip should research the area's regulations and prepare accordingly for a remote, natural experience on the water.
