The St. Francis Sunken Lands Wildlife Management Area offers excellent access to the St. Francis River for kayakers, canoeists, and small boaters. The Oak Donick access point, located south of Trumann off AR 63 near Tulot, provides a boat ramp for launching into the slow-moving, winding waters of the St. Francis River.
The St. Francis River in this area is a large, meandering waterway that flows through the wetlands and bottomland forests of the Sunken Lands. The river is generally wide, slow, and navigable by small craft, making it well-suited for paddling and exploration. The area is known for its diverse bird life, including shorebirds, eagles, and a variety of ducks that use the flooded habitats from October through February.
While the Oak Donick access is one of several boat ramps and landings along the St. Francis River within the Wildlife Management Area, it provides a convenient put-in point for those looking to access this unique and wildlife-rich section of the river. Paddlers should be prepared for potentially low water levels during drier times of the year, but the Oak Donick ramp generally offers good access to the river.
