About This Access Site
Staples Lake Landing provides access to the Great Pee Dee River and Apple Orchard Slough in Williamsburg County. The facility includes a paved boat ramp, parking area, and a fishing pier, making it a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The site is located near Williams Hill in the Atlantic Coastal Plain region of South Carolina.

From this access point, paddlers can explore the scenic Great Pee Dee River, which features relatively straight sections with densely forested banks near the launch area. Downstream, the river transitions into more winding sections with tight bends and sand bars. This section of the river is part of the South Carolina Revolutionary Rivers Water Trail and is designated as a State Scenic River, offering paddlers an opportunity to explore an ecologically significant waterway through mixed wetland habitats.

The nearby Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge provides additional recreational opportunities in the region, including wildlife viewing, birding, and fishing. This area is ideal for paddlers seeking a moderate-difficulty float with scenic surroundings and good wildlife viewing potential.
